From the city, follow US 6 West out through Johnston, Scituate and Foster (Hartford Avenue, Hartford Pike, then Grand Army Highway). Keep following US 6 into Connecticut, where it joins I-395 South. Trailers for Providence work
Triple-decker jobs. Contractors working Providence's tight streets often prefer a 6x12 or 7x12 enclosed cargo trailer over something bigger. It's easier to park on a side street and still holds a full tool setup behind a locked door. Our enclosed stock is mostly J&C Suppliers, with Quality Cargo and Lightning units mixed in, from 6x12 up to 8.5x24 (more enclosed listings).
Roofing, demo and cleanouts. A tandem-axle dump trailer from Lamar or Hillcrest can sit at the curb while the crew loads it, then tip at the transfer station (Hillcrest dumps).
Cars and small equipment. Hillcrest car haulers in 16+2 and 18+2, and a Hillcrest 14+2 equipment trailer, cover moving vehicles and compact machines.
Boat owners, take note. Our current inventory has no boat trailers. Call (860) 924-0887 before you make the drive for one.
Registering a trailer in Rhode Island
Rhode Island has its own rules. From the RI Division of Motor Vehicles:
Title at 3,001 lbs and up. Trailers with a GVWR of 3,001 lbs or more require a title. For a new trailer, bring the Manufacturer's Statement of Origin. Several of our single-axle 6x12 enclosed trailers are listed under that line at 2,990 lbs GVWR, so check the unit page (RI DMV, trailer registration).
What to bring. The Application for Registration (TR-1), a bill of sale, insurance information for the vehicle that will pull the trailer, and the trailer's length, GVWR and carrying capacity (RI DMV).
Sales tax goes to Rhode Island, not Connecticut. We don't charge Connecticut sales tax to Rhode Island buyers. You pay Rhode Island sales tax when you register; for an out-of-state dealer purchase, the RI DMV checklist calls for Sales Tax Form T-334 (RI DMV TR-1 checklist). Financing buyers: ask us how registration and tax are handled.
VIN check. RI requires a VIN check from your local police department for trailers 3,001 lbs or more that are currently titled out of state (RI DMV).
Annual safety inspection. Trailers over 1,000 lbs GVWR registered in Rhode Island must pass a RI safety inspection before June 30 each year (RI DMV inspections).
Prices, financing and holds
Each unit page lists two prices, the credit card price and a lower cash or check price; see the current inventory. Financing works with an SSN, an ITIN (proof of residence required), or a business EIN, or through your own bank. To lock in a unit before you make the trip, you can reserve it online with a $200 deposit. That holds the trailer for one week. The deposit is non-refundable, but it can be transferred to another trailer purchase, and the balance is paid at the dealership. All trailer sales are final (shipping, returns and payment policy), so ask your questions before you buy.
